The Travelling Sceptre

The Travelling Sceptre was presented to the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent by the Provincial Grand Master for Gloucestershire at the annual meeting in May 2025.
This travelling Sceptre was brought to fruition by the Deputy Grand Superintendent and E. Comp. Barnes Clutterbuck following the introduction of the Travelling Gavel in Gloucestershire. More information on its history can be found here.
The principal idea is to encourage visiting and as such it is important to keep the sceptre moving. Therefore, with some Chapter’s meeting less frequently than others there must be a time limit for a Chapter to hold the Travelling Sceptre. If it is not claimed or is not possible to be claimed, then it will be the responsibility of the Chapter that ‘holds’ it to take to and present it to another Chapter to keep it moving. This adds increased opportunity for visiting Chapters.
Where is it now?
The Sceptre is currently held by St Peter’s Chapter who meet in Bromyard. They claimed it from the Royal Forest of Dean Chapter in Newnham on the 4th December 2025.
