Mark Benjamin Smith Installed as Deputy Grand Superintendent

The Most Excellent Grand Superintendent is pleased to share news of the installation of E. Comp. Mark Benjamin Smith as the new Deputy Grand Superintendent for the Royal Arch Province of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. The ceremony, conducted by the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent – Michael Holland, marks a significant and symbolic moment for Freemasonry in our region, reinforcing our commitment to unity and forward-thinking leadership.
Mark is no stranger to provincial leadership, already serving with distinction as the Deputy Provincial Grand Master for Craft Freemasonry in Gloucestershire. His dual role is both historic and meaningful, especially within the unique structure of the Gloucestershire and Herefordshire Royal Arch, which remains the only Royal Arch Province to span two Craft Provinces.
His appointment was the result of close collaboration between E. Comp. Michael Holland, Most Excellent Grand Superintendent in and over the Royal Arch Province of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, and R.W. Bro. Ian Davies, Provincial Grand Master for Gloucestershire Craft Freemasonry. Their joint effort reflects a strong shared vision and mutual dedication to the future of Freemasonry in both Craft and Royal Arch.
This alignment of leadership further underlines the “One Journey, One Organisation” philosophy at the heart of UGLE’s 2022 Strategy. By bridging both Craft and Royal Arch, Mark is perfectly placed to help build stronger bonds across the Provinces, creating more cohesive experiences for brethren at every stage of their Masonic journey.
In his remarks, Mark shared his enthusiasm for the road ahead:
“It’s a great honour to be entrusted with this responsibility. I look forward to working closely with Companions and Brethren throughout both Provinces, strengthening the unity between Craft and Royal Arch, and continuing to deliver on the vision of our strategy.”
Assistants to the Provincial Grand Principals – Appointed
The evening also saw two new appointments to further support the work of the Royal Arch in our area. David Hedley and Richard Myatt were both installed as Assistants to the Provincial Grand Principals, a newly created role designed to enhance leadership capacity and outreach throughout the region.
These appointments mark an exciting new chapter for the Province, as we continue to innovate while staying true to our core values. Congratulations to Mark, David, and Richard on their new roles — and thank you to all who support the ongoing journey of Freemasonry in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.
